As a real estate agent, it’s common to feel stuck from time to time. Whether you’re struggling to find new clients, feeling burnt out from long hours, or just lacking motivation, it can be hard to know how to move forward. The good news is that there are many simple strategies you can use to get unstuck and start making progress again. Here are 10 simple ways for real estate agents to get unstuck.

1. Cut back on alcohol
While a glass of wine or beer at the end of the day may be tempting, excessive alcohol consumption can contribute to feeling stuck. If you’re finding that alcohol is becoming a crutch, consider cutting back to see if it makes a difference. Instead, try other ways to unwind such as exercise, reading, or listening to music.

I love a glass of wine as much as you do, but I noticed I was getting in the habit of pouring one almost every night. I was not sleeping well and I had headaches the next day.Though I wasn’t at the point of feeling like an addict, I definitely noticed that alcohol was negatively affecting my life, so I decided to take a break. I downloaded an app called Nomo and it has a clock that keeps track of how many days since I have  had a glass of wine. I am currently on 9, and I feel so much better and in control of my body and my life. Choosing herbal tea instead of chardonnay has shifted my energy and got me moving in the right direction.

2. Move your body
Physical activity is essential for both mental and emotional well-being. If you’re feeling stuck, try incorporating simple exercises into your daily routine. You don’t need to go to the gym or even leave your home; simple stretching, yoga poses, or even a brisk walk can do wonders for your mood.

I used to workout to look good, and it got me motivated for a really long time, but then COVID hit and I stayed in sweatpants chowing on bowls of pasta and washing it down with chilled wine. The pounds piled on and I got sluggish and lazy. It was only a few weeks ago when the weather broke that I  started moving again. I wasn’t motivated by looking good because that seemed too far away- an unreachable goal. Instead, I just focused on being outside and moving my body a little everyday in order to feel better. Now I am not only feeling more energetic, I am also starting to feel lighter, and someday soon, I might fit into my jeans again.

3. Eat some food from the earth
A healthy diet can improve mood and energy levels, so try incorporating more fruits, vegetables, and whole grains into your meals. Meal planning and preparation can also help you stick to healthy eating habits.

Planning meals involves shopping, cooking and cleaning up. It is a commitment, and it isn’t for everyone, yet there are so many benefits to paying attention to what goes in our mouths that this should be bumped to the top of the list.

Even if it involves purchasing a meal plan, the mere act of being present and paying attention to your food, of giving thought to what enters your body will do almost as much good for you as the nutrients that hit your bloodstream.

What we give our attention to, grows, and healthy eating habits are no different. By focusing on good food and health, we shift our energy and propel ourselves toward a more positive life.

4. Go out in nature
Spending time in nature can be restorative and help you recharge. If you’re feeling stuck, try taking a walk during your lunch break, going on a weekend hike, or just spending time in your backyard. Unplug from technology and fully immerse yourself in the natural world.

This one always sounded cheesy to me, especially because I am a city girl. I never considered myself the nature loving type, until I adopted my dogs. Despite the fact that they are city dogs, they love to run around unleashed and be, well, dogs. The dog park at the corner is nice, but kind of small, so we discovered a giant fenced in wooded area where they can roam free.

At first, I took them there as a favor to them, but I found myself craving the trees and birds and even the bugs. I noticed that my heart rate slowed and  I felt calm and present. That feeling comes home with me and makes the rest of my life better.

5. Call a friend
Social connection is essential for mental health, so don’t be afraid to reach out to a supportive friend or family member when you’re feeling stuck. Talking things through with someone who understands can help you gain perspective and feel less alone.

As part of my Real Estate Business, I aim to reach out to at least 5 people each day. This habit began as a chore to keep my pipeline full, but quickly turned into one of my favorite activities. Talking to friends and keeping in touch has become part of my routine and keeps me laughing and engaged. Life is about so much more than closing deals. Spending time with people I love, or even just like, brings me joy.

6. Pray/meditate
Mindfulness practices like prayer and meditation can help you focus and reduce stress. If you’re new to mindfulness, try starting with just a few minutes a day and gradually increasing your practice. You may find that it helps you feel more grounded and centered.

For years, I was a failure at meditation. It was just one more stressful obligation. It was constantly weighing on me as something I should be doing, until I listened to my first guided meditation with Dr. Joe Dispenza. Holy crap was I hooked!

Finally, I didn’t have to force myself to sit quietly and pretend to meditate while really just spinning out about my to do list and  unpaid bills. I was in a freaking trippy trance, and all I had to do was sit there and enjoy it. Even though I am not, and probably never will be, one of those Zen people who can sit quietly for hours in meditation, guided mediation  is something I crave.

7. Get organized
Clutter and disorganization can contribute to feeling stuck, so try decluttering and organizing your physical spaces. Start with your desk, closet, or any area that tends to accumulate clutter. Resources like books and online courses can provide guidance and inspiration.

This is my favorite activity in the world. Nothing brings me more satisfaction than decluttering something. Don’t be mislead to think that I live a minimalist, junk free life. It’s really the opposite. There are usually piles of stuff around, papers, books, clothes….and every time I get to the breaking point, I go nuclear on a shelf. I then make that cleared space the center of my world and feel grounded and focused. Like magic.

8. Learn something new
Continued learning is essential for personal and professional growth. Whether it’s listening to podcasts, taking online courses, or attending conferences, find ways to incorporate learning into your daily life. You may find that learning something new gives you a sense of purpose and direction.

This one is tough for me, because I love learning, but tend to keep learning more about the same stuff- real estate, mindset and business. It’s kind of my comfort zone and keeps me engaged, but doesn’t make a huge change in my life. When I suggest trying something new, I mean like learning Greek or Salsa,.

Let’s both take this advice and see what happens.

9. Take a break
Rest and relaxation are essential for both mental and physical health. If you’re feeling stuck, try taking a break to read a book, take a nap, or just do something you enjoy. Prioritize self-care and take breaks when you need them.

Sorry, but I am not a member of the hustle culture, and I will never tell you to crush it or power through. I believe in balance and enjoying the moment.

It is ok to rest.

10. Gratitude
Gratitude is the fastest path toward manifesting, and it is the key to happiness. Practicing gratitude is easy, free and gives instant results. Not sure how to do it? I wasn’t either. In fact, I used to think that you had to be religious to practice gratitude.

Silly me.

It’s as simple as looking around and thinking about something that you are thankful for, like opening your eyes this morning, the warm dog or human sleeping next to you, and that fact that somehow, despite your having nothing to do with it, your miraculous heart beat blood through your body all night and kept you alive.

No matter how stuck or crappy your life feels now, there is something to be grateful for. Find it, focus on it for 30 seconds, and your entire vibration will change for the better.

Choosing to be a Real Estate Broker as a career is choosing to wake up every day unemployed. There is huge reward, but what comes with it is a heavy risk and the burden of getting burned out or stuck. So often, I see agents giving up on their career because no one showed them how to keep up their energy.

That path is no good for your business, or for your life. Instead, the moment you are feeling flat or stressed, scan this list and pick one that feels good, and do it. All you need a tiny boost to get out of your slump and back to enjoying this amazon and joyful trip called life.
